Smith Floats - who are we?
In late 2021, Smith Attachments had the opportunity to begin manufacturing horse floats. Between our 45 years of engineering experience and Susie Amos’s wealth of knowledge and experience with horses, it was decided that we could make the safest, strongest and best manufactured floats on the market. With this, February 2022, saw the beginning of Smith Floats.

What is our history?
Smith Attachments didn’t just decide over night that we could build floats - our experience says we can! Smith Attachments was originally formed over 45 years ago, in Ian Smiths garage in Ashburton. Our initial venture began with trailers and accessories for 3 Wheelers, then 2 wheelers and quads as they entered the market.

In 2012 Sharyn Amos, who had been at Smith Attachments for 12 years and her husband, Bram purchased shares in the business and in 2017 they took 100% ownership. From here, Smith Attachments has gone from strength to strength, with high quality toolboxes, utility boxes, dog boxes and crates, as well as introducing a premier range of ute decks and ute lids to our range of products in 2015.

In 2019, Susie’s husband, Matt Amos brought his experience as a qualified Auto Electrician and Air Conditioning Technician to the business, offering on farm repairs, TracMap installs and servicing from the Waimak to the Lindis Pass. Along with this, and his and Bram’s love of hunting and outdoors, they designed The Alpine Adventurer - Smith Attachments Canvas Tent and Fire.
Smith Attachments has a small team of 12, with over 50 years of combined engineering experience.

So, what does this mean for you?
It means we have the knowledge and experience to offer you top quality workmanship, professionalism, and friendly customer service. It means we can work with you to create the exact horse float you’ve been looking for.

Smith Floats. Designed to function. Designed to last.
